The company specializing in bulk sugar logistics invests € 12.5 million in Le Havre. Objective: increase the capacity of its sugar terminal, on the eve of the end of the European sugar quotas scheduled for 1 October.

The company specializing in bulk sugar logistics invests € 12.5 million in Le Havre. Objective: increase the capacity of its sugar terminal, on the eve of the end of the European sugar quotas scheduled for 1 October.

Work is continuing, clearly visible in the port area, beside the silos already installed on the banks of the basins: Sucre Océane built to expand its total transit capacity from 45,000 to 60,000 tonnes.

The company specializing in bulk sugar logistics in Le Havre has the largest customers in its sector: TereosCristal UnionSaint-Louis Sucre, which supply brands such as Coca-ColaNestlé or Danone… And all are preparing for the liberalization of the European sugar market, from 1 October.

So Sucre Océane invests € 12.5 million in the construction of new capacities. The company is also aiming to triple its inbound / outbound handling capacities through its equipment in pit trucks, conveyor belts, lift at the rate of 300 tons per hour. With these new installations, receiving pits, regulating hoppers and bagging lines, the company hopes to bring the export traffic to 7,000 containers from Le Havre.

Created in 1987 by the port terminal operator SHGT and the Euroports group,The Havre site, which has fifteen employees – and expects to recruit by the end of 2017 – It had previously had 45,000 tons of storage capacity, divided into three individual cells of 15,000 tons each. For the stuffing of containers and road tanks, the company offers all types of sugar packaging (bulk liners, big bag, 50 kg bags), has set up a HACCP quality system adapted to the requirements of European customers and has obtained the AEO certification (Authorised Economic Operator), promoting customs simplification, safety and supply chain security. The site also obtained the FSSC 22000 certification which represents excellence in agri-food safety.
